NECK

Worth 0 of the 20 points for Body - (100 Points Total)

This boning portion of the Bengal Standard refers to the bone structure for the torso of the body.

2016 - 2019 CFA Bengal Standard for NECK:

Thick and muscular, long in proportion to the body.

Examples of the Ideal Bengal Neck - Long and Muscular:

Examples of thick Bengal necks (un-desirable trait):

Breed Council Change Considerations:

NOTE:  Rose highlight indicates a "Strike-through" of wording in the Bengal Breed standard to be removed.  Gold highlight indicates an "underline" which is new wording being proposed to add in to the Bengal Standard.

1.  Slightly change the wording from:

Thick and muscular.  Long in proportion to the body.

to:

Long and muscular.

Rationale:

A.  It's hard to visualize Both a Thick neck and a Smaller head on the same cat.

B.  Most Male Bengals with thick necks have heads wider than long which is not our current "ideal".

C.  The 2nd phrase in our standard means something other than what was intended.  CUrrently, the way it is written, it means that the neck is long in proportion to their already long bodies.   Think of a Giraffe neck.  What we truly meant to say is that just like the body, the neck is also longer than an average domestic cat.

C.  The picture of cat "GG" doesn't really show his incredibly thick neck -   very similar to a football player neck.   We couldn't even scruff this guy because it was so thick!    As you can see, a thicker neck supports a bigger head.

PROPOSAL #17 for the proposed 2019 Ballot.  Results:  27 Yes, 41 No - 68 voters needs 41 "yes" votes to pass.  Did not pass.

Breed Council Change Considerations for 2019 that did not get on the Ballot:

A.  Move the section "NECK" in the description section to be listed under "BONING" (Current title)  possibly called "STRUCTURE & SIZE" (Proposed title name change in question #  )

CURRENT:

    EARS
    EYES
    NECK
BODY (Possibly new title called:  STRUCTURE & SIZE)
    BONE
    LEGS
    PAWS
    TAIL

PROPOSED:

     EARS

     EYES
     BODY
BONE (Possibly new title called:  STRUCTURE & SIZE)

     NECK
     LEGS
     PAWS
     TAIL

Rationale:

A.  We may want to put neck in one of the two sections dealing with the body of the cat -  Either the Head section or the Body section.    Currently it seems to be part of the "HEAD" section since it's written above "BODY".

B.  The long spine of the body fits nicely with the long spine of the neck.

C.  Muscle of the body fits nicely with muscle of the neck.

NOT CURRENTLY ON THE 2019 BALLOT.   IT SEEMED LIKE GETTING THE VOTE DONE REGARDING THE WORDING CHANGE FOR "STRUCTURE & SIZE" WAS A GOOD FIRST STEP BEFORE PROPOSING WHERE WE ALL FEEL THE NECK SHOULD BE LISTED.   ALSO -  THIS HAS NOT HAD ANY WRITTEN DISCUSSION ON THIS OPTION.   I WOULD LIKE TO GET FEEDBACK FROM THE COUNCIL BEFORE PROPOSING THIS.   PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR PREFERENCE.
