Seal Mink Bengals:

Breed Council Change Considerations:

NOTE:  Rose highlight indicates a "Strike-through" of wording in the Bengal Breed standard to be removed.  Gold highlight indicates an "underline" which is new wording being proposed to add in to the Bengal Standard.

1. Change the description of “SEAL MINK TABBY” as follows (combines aspects of the 2018 proposed changes together with the proposed changes of another large group):

SEAL MINK TABBY (Rosetted/Spotted, Marble, Charcoal):  Ground color can range from cream to light tan, with color on chest and belly lighter.  Markings may vary from medium tan, to chocolate, to dark seal brown, and be clearly visible.  The point color should not be significantly darker than the body markings.  Color around the eyes, temples, and muzzle is lighter.  Tail tip should be dark seal brown.  NOSE LEATHER:  Pink to brick red.   PAW PADS:  Black.  EYE COLOR:  Aqua (varies from blue-green to turquoise)

SEAL MINK TABBY (Rosetted/Spotted, Marble, Charcoal): Ground Color ranges from ivory to light tan.  Clearly visible markings range from chocolate to dark seal brown.  Little to no substantially darker point colors.   Nose leather:  Pink to brownish black.  Paw pads:  Brownish black, rose undertones allowed.  Eye color:  Aqua.  Tail tip:  Dark seal brown to black.

RATIONALE:  Combines 2 large portions of the Breed Council proposals into a single option.  Corrects paw pad color from “Black” to “Brownish black, rose undertones allowed.”, adds an additional color for the “Tail tip” to include dark seal brown in addition to Black, moves “Tail tip” to the end of the section to be consistent with all colors in our color description section and simplifies and shortens the current version.

Rationale:

Obstacles:

1.  Changing the wording from the 2018 vote may cause us to lose some of the Council members vote.

WITHIN QUESTION #57 ON THE 2019 BALLOT.  Ballot results:  40 yes, 28 no - 68 voters needs 41 votes to pass.  Did not pass by 1 vote.

Breed Council Change Considerations for 2019 that did not get on the Ballot:

1.  Accept the 2018 Proposed CFA Bengal Standard for SEAL MINK TABBY:

Ground Color ranges from ivory to light tan.  Clearly visible markings range from chocolate to dark seal brown.  Tail tip dark seal brown.  NOSE LEATHER:  brick to brownish black.  PAW PADS:  brownish black, rosey undertones allowed.

Rationale:

1.  Shows that the Bengal Breed Council can work together to move the standard forward on a peice by peice basis since this is the same language proposed in 2018.

2.  Keeping the wording the same on something that had a 49% "yes", helps to ensure that we can get to the 60% required to pass.

3.  Current standard states Black Paw Pads which is incorrect.

4.  Judges and CFA want us to create a shorter/condensed standard.

5.  Only one change proposed for consistency - using the word Rose vs Rosy.  (Rosey misspelled).

6.  Corrects PAW PAD color.  Black is incorrect.

Obstacles:

1.  Does not have EYE COLOR addressed.

2. Does not address color point aspects.

3. "TAIL TIP" is not in the same format as other versions of the color standard.

THIS IS CURRENTLY NOT BEING PROPOSED IN THE 2019 BALLOT IN FAVOR OF #1 ABOVE.  THIS COMBINES AND INCLUDES PREFERENCES FROM 2 LARGE GROUPS IN OUR COUNCIL.
