Seal Sepia Bengals:

Breed Council Change Considerations:

NOTE:  Rose highlight indicates a "Strike-through" of wording in the Bengal Breed standard to be removed.  Gold highlight indicates an "underline" which is new wording being proposed to add in to the Bengal Standard.

1.  Change the description of “SEAL SEPIA” color to the following:

SEAL SEPIA TABBY (Rosetted/Spotted, Marble, Charcoal):  Ground color can range from cream to tan, with color on chest and belly lighter.  Markings may vary from dark seal brown to rich dark brown, and be clearly visible.  The point color should not be significantly darker than the body markings.  Color around the eyes, temples, and muzzle is lighter.  Tail tip should be dark seal brown.  NOSE LEATHER:  Pink to brick red.  PAW PADS:  Black.  EYE COLOR:  Green Gold.

SEAL SEPIA TABBY (Rosetted/Spotted, Marble, Charcoal):  Ground color ranges from ivory to deep tan.  Clearly visible rich dark brown markings.  Nose leather:  Pink to brownish black.  Paw pads:  Brownish black, rose undertones allowed.  Eye color:  Gold to green.  Tail tip:  Dark seal brown to black.

Rationale:

1.  Combines items from 3 groups, hopefully leaving no-one's ideas outside of this description section.

2.  Paw Pad color is not completely correct currently or with the 2018 proposal.   Even the Seal Sepia blocks some color production and there is usually an effect on the paw pad color because of this.

3.  Judges and CFA want us to create a shorter/condensed standard.

4.  Format adjustments for TAIL TIP to be at the end of the description to be in alignment with other color descriptions.

5.  Adding in EYE COLOR section.

6.  Removal of NOSE LEATHER being outlined in darker color -  It may not be true with all Sepias.

Obstacle:

PROPOSAL #58 ON THE 2019 BALLOT.  Ballot results: 40 yes, 28 no - 68 voters need 41 "Yes" votes to pass.  Did not pass.

Breed Council Change Considerations for 2019 that did not get on the Ballot:

1.  Accept the proposed 2018 CFA Bengal Standard for SEAL SEPIA TABBY:

Ground color ranges from ivory to deep tan.  Clearly visible rich dark brown markings.  Tail tip dark seal brown.  NOSE LEATHER: brick outlined in black to brownish black.  PAW PADS:  black.

Rationale:

1.  Shows that the Bengal Breed Council can work together to move the standard forward on a peice by peice basis since this is the same language proposed in 2018.

2.  Keeping the wording the same on something that had a 49% "yes", helps to ensure that we can get to the 60% required to pass.

3.  Judges and CFA want us to create a shorter/condensed standard.

Obstacle:

1.  We need to determine where eye color fits and if we should include this in the 2019 proposed standard.

2.  Eye color not addressed

3.  Tail tip section should be moved to the end for consistency with other colors.

4.  Paw Pad color is not completely correct.   Even the Seal Sepia blocks some color production and there is usually an effect on the paw pad color because of this.

THIS IS CURRENTLY NOT BEING PROPOSED IN THE 2019 BALLOT IN FAVOR OF COMPROMISE PROPOSAL BELOW WHICH INCLUDES PREFERENCES FROM 2 LARGE GROUPS IN OUR COUNCIL.
