This boning portion of the Bengal Standard refers to the bone structure for the torso of the body.

2016 - 2019 CFA Bengal Standard for BONING:

Substantial, never delicate.

Examples of Substantial Boning (May never get a photo for this as it's felt vs. shown) but we can find photos if we use structure and size as we can illustrate the length of the bengal's long vertebrae etc. :

Breed Council Change Considerations:

NOTE: Rose highlight indicates a "Strike-through" of wording in the Bengal Breed standard to be removed. Gold highlight indicates an "underline" which is new wording being proposed to add in to the Bengal Standard.

1. Should we change the titles of the sections called "BONE" or "BONING" to "STRUCTURE & SIZE"? (from the CFA Balinese Standard)

Rationale:

A. Boning limits us to just "bone" - Using "Structure & Size" can incorporate Body, Bone and Size (and possibly musculature if we wanted it to).

B. We need a place where the size of the cat is addressed outside of the general description.

C. Body and Body Length would be included in this section and be given points. (Currently "Body" is given a description but no points are given for it outside of boning and musculature)

D. We could now have a place for the Neck that also includes it's boning as well as length.

PROPOSAL #15 for the 2019 Ballot (Separate questions as separate parts of the standard would be changed). Results: 25 Yes, 43 No - 68 voters need 41 "yes" votes to pass. Did not pass.

PROPOSAL #16 for the 2019 Ballot (Separate questions as separate parts of the standard would be changed). Results: 25 Yes, 44 No - 69 voters need 42 "yes" votes to pass. Did not pass.

Breed Council Change Considerations for 2019 that did not get on the Ballot:

A. If #1 passes above (questions #15 & #16 on the 2019 ballot), we may want to remove the description section titled "BODY" and add the wording contained in this section into the "STRUCTURE & SIZE" section:

Rationale:

A. “BODY” is a section heading under the POINT SCORE portion of the standard so all of it’s features could be described within the subset of sections underneath that heading. We do not need a general description when it's already covered by the more specific body parts within that heading.

B. Adds in language regarding the elongated vertebrae. Keeping it simple by not saying “from the top of the neck to the tip of the tail” but we could include this if we wanted to in the future (or if added to the wording before the Sept. 15th deadline for final ballot submissions).

C. Simplifies our standard.

D. Adds in language about the elongated vertebrae of the Bengal cat - Currently, not addressed in the standard.

NOT CURRENTLY ON THE 2019 BALLOT. I WANTED TO SEE IF QUESTION 1 ABOVE PASSES FIRST BEFORE SUGGESTING THIS CHANGE.

B. Should we add the word "Balance" somewhere in our standard? It might fit well in this section if we agree to change to "Structure & Size" as the new heading.

Adding language to the GENERAL description section of "no one attribute should be emphasized over any other" was suggested by a CFA judge so that they consider the cat as a balanced whole rather than the individual parts and pieces that can make some Bengals look unbalanced

Rationale:

A. Suggested by a CFA Judge.

B. Sometimes the parts and pieces don't really add up to a "Balanced Cat".
