PENALIZE

No specific point values + or -

Bengal Breeders

2018 CFA Bengal Standard for PENALIZE:

Rosetted/Spotted Tabby Pattern - Rosettes or spots running together vertically forming a mackerel tabby pattern.   Marble Tabby Pattern - Circular bull's eye pattern.  Snow Tabby Pattern - Substantially darker point color as compared to color of body markings.

Breed Council Change Considerations:

1.  Adjustment to current standard to also penalize Rosetted/Spotted Bengals (not just marbles) for having patterns are also form a circular bullseye.

Proposed:

PENALIZE: Rosetted/Spotted Tabby Pattern – Rosettes or spots running together vertically forming a mackerel tabby pattern.  Rosetted/Spotted & Marble Tabby Pattern – Circular bull’s eye pattern. Snow Tabby Pattern - Substantially darker point color as compared to color of body markings.

Rationale:

A.  We don't want circular bullseye patterns in our Rosetted/Spotted Bengals either.

Obstacles:

PROPOSAL #28 for the proposed 2019 Ballot.  34 Yes, 34 No. 68 Voters needs 41 "yes" votes to pass.  Did not pass.

Breed Council Change Considerations for 2019 that did not get on the Ballot:

A.  Group of approx. 12 members have sent in this proposal for changes regarding tail anomalies:

Proposed:

PENALIZE: Rosetted/Spotted Tabby Pattern – Rosettes or spots running together vertically forming a mackerel tabby pattern. Marble Tabby Pattern – Circular bull’s eye pattern. Snow Tabby Pattern - Substantially darker point color as compared to color of body markings. Palpable tail fault or other anomaly.

Rationale:

A.  We as breeders are working diligently at breeding away from tail faults in our cats, but because breeding the ideal Bengal is so difficult, we would like the judges to consider penalizing non-visible tail faults appropriately on an otherwise outstanding example of the Bengal breed.

Obstacles:

A.  Only submitted to BCS on 7/31 with only 2 weeks before the proposed ballot is required to be turned into CFA.

B.  No consensus within the CFA Breed Council for this change as it hasn't had time for people to see, read, discuss and suggest changes.

C.  If we require judges to stimulate/feel the tail while judging the cat can make him/her uncomfortable and possibly even injuring tails (From a CFA Judge).

D.  A past CFA Judge has told us that the Bengal tail is very different that the tail of other CFA Breeds.   She describes it as more rectangular than square.    She believes that judges will feel a Bengal tail and because it's not like other breeds, they will penalize it just because it feels different.   Some council members believe that this is what's going on currently.

CURRENTLY NOT A SEPARATE QUESTION FOR THE PROPOSED 2019 BALLOT AS IT WAS ONLY SUBMITTED ON 7/31/19.   IT IS CURRENTLY POSTED ON THIS WEBSITE ON 8/3/19 SO THAT THE COUNCIL CAN START TO GET FEEDBACK FROM ALL OF IT'S MEMBERS.   THIS IS A SIMPLE QUESTION THOUGH AND WILL PROBABLY EASILY BE ADDED IF THERE IS ENOUGH SUPPORT FOR IT.

B.  Group of approx. 12 members have sent in this proposal for "PENALIZE":

Proposed:

PENALIZE: Rosetted/Spotted Tabby Pattern – Rosettes or spots running together vertically forming a mackerel tabby pattern, or any markings that have more vertical height than horizontal width, such as a rib bar, whether rosetted or a single stripe. Marble Tabby Pattern – Circular bull’s eye pattern. Snow Tabby Pattern – Substantially darker point color as compared to color of body markings.

Rationale:

A.  This additional verbiage more clearly describes common anomalies in Bengal patterns that we (the group of 12) feel should be penalized.

Obstacles:

A.  Only submitted to BCS on 7/31 with only 2 weeks before the proposed ballot is required to be turned into CFA.

B.  No consensus within the CFA Breed Council for this change as it hasn't had time for people to see, read, discuss and suggest changes.

C.  It negatively effects some Bengal Rosette patterns already being bred and enjoyed within CFA.   Those with a more Clouded Leopard shape/style to their rosettes.

D.  A small group of people who have strong opinions that "their desired" pattern is correct and others are incorrect does not rise to the 60% requirement for change.  Our current version for the CFA Standard is inclusive of everyone's desired Bengal Patterns.  Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the current standard has purposefully tried to be inclusive of everyone's desired patterns and let breeders specialize in a wide variety of Bengal pattern styles.
